The Taj Mahal is surrounded on three sides by gardens which frame it nicely. Normally these kinds of tombs should be in the center of the garden, reflecting the muslim view of Paradise but Shah Jahan wanted the tomb to stand out against the sky so he had it built at the end of the garden.
